Westport Residence
This residence replaces a 1950s structure on a generous wooded lot in southern Connecticut. The clients wanted a modern home that would be environmentally responsible and sufficiently flexible to allow for future expansion. Apicella + Bunton designed 3,800 square feet of living space along an east-west axis, allowing for maximum southern exposure and pleasant cross breezes.
Large windows create a strong connection between the interior and exterior while carefully placed screening walls maintain privacy. In addition, an accessible green roof insulates the interior spaces below and greatly reduces storm water run-off and heat reflection. To manage building costs, prefabrication construction techniques were utilized in collaboration with modular home manufacturer Empyrean International.
