Georgetown Wire Mill Theater
Apicella + Bunton was part of a design team led by the Georgetown Land Development Company to reclaim the abandoned Gilbert & Bennett Wire Mill in Georgetown, Connecticut. The 50-acre brownfield site was to be transformed into a beautiful, pedestrian-oriented “city within a city.”
The development included 416 units of housing, over 300,000 square feet of commercial space, an arts center, a health club and a renovated railroad station. Apicella + Bunton was commissioned to design the 29,000 square foot visual and performing arts center, which was envisioned as a hub of community activity for the development.
The centerpiece of the facility, the performing arts center was to be a flexible black box theater, housing a school of music and studio space for visiting and resident artists.
