Nave North Aisle

Apicella + Bunton was selected to renovate the Nave’s North Aisle, circulation desk and security desk. The North Aisle includes areas for student lounges, Library Services staff, and the Library Privileges desk.
Our work included fully renovating lounge areas with upgraded lighting and lounge furniture. The staff workspaces are now more private, separated from the lounge areas with a new wood-paneled wall inspired by existing similar walls at the Starr Reading Room and at the end of the North Aisle.
We studied multiple options for furniture layouts, using 3D views and renderings to assist in locating the new information desk. A+B created surveys of existing Nave millwork and furniture details for reuse and reference for new millwork details. We worked closely with contractors to achieve details and finishes that blend seamlessly with the existing context.
A new circulation desk was created by repurposing elements from the existing desk, drawing on details from the ornate original millwork. The new desk provides a more ergonomic experience for staff, while also better serving patrons with a bi-level design.
