Founded in 2004, Apicella + Bunton Architects LLC is an architectural design firm specializing in planning and design services for residential, corporate, cultural and academic clients. The founding partners, John Apicella and J Bunton, first collaborated as Senior Associates at Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects and share more than 50 years of combined professional experience designing award-winning buildings in both the United States and abroad.
Our practice maintains a dynamic, studio-like atmosphere, with the partners involved in all phases of the design process for every project. Additionally, Apicella + Bunton has an extensive network of consultants and works with the very best qualified professionals in all fields of building design to provide our clients with the highest quality service. We are committed to developing creative and beautiful design solutions for our clients while adhering strictly to their budget and schedule requirements.

John Apicella is one of the founding partners of Apicella + Bunton, bringing to the firm over 25 years of professional experience. He collaborates on the design of each project the office undertakes and employs his expertise in the supervision and execution of complex projects to develop and implement the firm's management practices.
John gained extensive experience in the design and management of a wide range of project types during his 16 years as a Senior Associate at Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. He played a vital role in the completion of some of the firm's largest and most notable projects including the Petronas Towers, the Canary Wharf Tower, and the Segerstrom Concert Hall and Samueli Theater.
John received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and serves on the faculty at the Yale School of Architecture where he teaches several courses related to topics and issues of contemporary architectural practice and management.
J Bunton is one of the founders of Apicella + Bunton and has more than 25 years of professional experience. He is involved in all aspects of the practice, collaborating on the design and management of each project the firm undertakes. He is particularly interested in the expression of architectural daylighting and the implementation of sustainable methods of design and construction.
Prior to Apicella + Bunton, J was a Senior Associate at Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects for 15 years. During his time with the firm, he gained substantial experience working with institutional clients and designing many high profile academic buildings, cultural centers and libraries. He also led the design for some of the firm's most notable performing arts commissions including the Segerstrom Concert Hall and Samueli Theater and the renovation of the South Coast Repertory.
J received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and serves regularly as a critic at the Yale School of Architecture.
